That is one funny tee shirt.  In today's economy we are so used to "buy one get one free."

THE PERFECT PRESENT

My Mom instilled in me that presentation is everything.  Every gift she has ever given has been beautifully wrapped.  People ooo and aaahh for at least a minute over the bow and wonder how on earth she could create it.  The wrapping in itself is half of the gift.  Now, I am passing her tricks of the trade on to you!

In this video, I show you how to properly wrap a gift and make a beautiful bow.

The key to a pretty package is having quality paper and ribbon.  Paper is easier to find, but the only ribbon I use for the above bow is C&G (Pattern 800 Satin).  At Crate and Barrel or Michael’s it will run you $10-15 a spool, online I found it for $6.

You can stop at the bow, but I like adding fresh or silk flowers to complete the look.

(Apologies for the production value.  We shot this on the floor of TMI and used poor Megan as a tripod.)

I worked in the gift wrap department of a major department store one Christmas and this was the wrapping method we used as well. The only thing I would add is that we used double stick tape and taped the wrapping paper on the wrong side (the side facing the box) to make it completely clean and put a little piece of double stick tape under the trim piece (flower, ornament, whatever) where it crossed under the bow to keep it from moving around during transit.

We also used to have wrapping races. I could get a shirt box sized present wrapped with bow in under two minutes. One of my co-workers once broke one minute.

But he was wrong, he says, because he--even he!--had underestimated the way scale can change the game. Sure, the experts say only 1% of Wikipedia's users actually contribute to making it better. Indeed, if you do the math, it's even worse than that: probably closer to 0.01% (today, Wikipedia has 75,000 active contributors out of 684 million visitors). But that 0.01% have created 10 million articles.

I am amazed how sophisticated marketers of religion are these days and it is no longer limited to Evangelicals.  This ad for Islam was on a New York City subway display.  Very clever, indeed.

I really do not trust the Pakistanis on this.  After denying that any Pakistanis were ever involved and now nabbing the mastermind and planners of the attack, Pakistan has lost any credibility.  By not handing them over to India, they are merely making sure that the role of Pakistani intelligence agencies is not revealed.

The minister also said that India's demands for the extradition of suspects in the Mumbai attacks were out of the question and that Pakistan, which has arrested 16 people since Saturday, would keep them on home soil.

"The arrests are being made for our own investigations. Even if allegations are proved against any suspect, he will not be handed over to India," Qureshi said. "We will proceed against those arrested under Pakistani laws."

I noticed this only this morning because yesterday when I called a junk car company in the Boston area to find out if they were interested in taking my Subaru Impreza 1993 with a quarter million miles, the guy apologetically offered only $50 for it.

According to the Times, The economic downturn has decimated the market for recycled materials like cardboard, plastic, newspaper and metals. Across the country, this junk is accumulating by the ton in the yards and warehouses of recycling contractors, which are unable to find buyers or are unwilling to sell at rock-bottom prices.

I find leggings to be a hideous part of the wardrobe whether they cost $78 or or $7.99.  It also doesn't matter if they are designed by Lindsay Lohan.  Only very rarely, and LiLo is not one of them, can a girl look good in leggings.  Ladies, please don't wear them.

I have a lot of respect for Tim Egan of the Times but who is he to tell the publishers what books to print.  Indeed, the books "authored" by Joe The Plumber or Sarah Palin will most likely be written by ghost writers and may have nothing of value to read, but whether these books should be published and bought by readers is better left for the marketplace to decide.

I mean what is he going to suggest next?  That a housewife in Boise cannot blog because all she does is talk about her cute babies?

Publishers: with all the grim news of layoffs and staff cuts at the venerable houses of American letters, can we set some ground rules for these hard times? Anyone who abuses the English language on such a regular basis should not be paid to put words in print.

And then the Pakistani president has the audacity to claim that his country was not involved in the Mumbai attacks and kept asking for evidence to that effect.  There is no doubt in my mind that Pakistan is a terrorist country and the world should come together to get Pakistan rid of the terrorists with the help of whatever number of peace-loving Pakistanis.

Lashkar-e-Taiba, the Pakistan-based militant group suspected of conducting the Mumbai attacks, has quietly gained strength in recent years with the help of Pakistan’s main spy service, assistance that has allowed the group to train and raise money while other militants have been under siege, American intelligence and counterterrorism officials say.

Totally agree with Paul Krugman that like the steel industry or the call centers, we wouldn't be making cars in the coming years.  And while I strongly oppose any bailouts, it probably makes sense to rescue the auto guys for the time being as an act of charity to millions of workers, who would eventually lose their jobs but if this rescue can postpone the pain for a year or so while the economy recovers, it would be a worthwhile expense.

Speaking to reporters three days ahead of the Nobel Prize ceremony, Krugman said plans by U.S. lawmakers to bail out the Big Three automakers were a short-term solution, resulting from a "lack of willingness to accept the failure of a large industry in the midst of an economic crisis."

Hello!  It is not the bloggers, stupid.  It is the voters.  Before the web, the voters could speak only once in 4 years, now they can speak every day.  So stop whining and start talking to us.  Yes, maybe bloggers got some things wrong but then it is your task to correct those errors.

“Beats me,” said a well-wired former senior intelligence official. “Brennan’s hands were not very dirty at all. He was apparently thrown under the bus because some ill-informed bloggers thought they were [dirty] and the transition folks didn’t have the will to explain that they were wrong.”

Caroline Kennedy: Clinton Senate Replacement?

I have a lot of respect for the Kennedy family and I think that they have done a lot to our nation but I oppose this sort of nepotism.

I mean in the whole State of New York, aren't there other qualified people who have actually done a lot to the community that can be honored by this appointment rather than appointing someone who is just a high-profile person?

NYC fashion boutique: free soup, designer pants

Hmmm....I don't feel so poor any more.

"The boutique called 1929 is selling chic clothes and giving away soup and coffee. The store is located in one of the trendiest shopping districts in the city.

Manager and co-owner Aaron Genuth says the store in SoHo was inspired by the Great Depression. His partner Levi Okunov says they want people to go to the store, have a bowl of soup and try on some clothing."

Run Sarah Run

Nothing could be better for Barack Obama than two Republican morons (Christian extremists, creationism believing, and homophobes) running against him.

The Associated Press: Hoax call fuels Pakistan-Indian tensions

Sarah Palin talked to some comedians thinking that she was speaking to French President Sarkozy.  A Florida Congresswoman hung up on Barack Obama thinking that it was a prank call.

I mean can't these people figure out who they are talking to.  Can we really trust important decisions to these people when they can't even make sure that they are really talking to real people?
